September Events In and Around Portland

September is here and we are taking advantage of the wonderful weather with these exciting outdoor events below!  Whether it’s a bow-wow kind of bike tour, a muddy and messy obstacle course, a walk to encourage talk about AIDS prevention and treatment, or a happy-go-lucky harvest festival, Portland has got it going on this month!

  • Sit.  Stay.  Go!  Get ready for the best dog-gone bike tour, Tour de Lab, Portland has to offer for dog lovers!  Who let the dogs out is right!  Lucky Labrador is hosting 19-40 miles of fun September 7 for their one-of-a-kind dog-themed bike extravaganza.  Be prepared to come in costume!  A pair of dog ears and attachable tail will do, but if you’re feeling frisky, paint on a nose and whiskers too.  No (real) dogs allowed though.  Finish the race earlier than 3:45pm and you’ll be eligible to compete in a costume contest and everyone receives free beer and hotdogs!
  • Go big or go home at the Warrior Dash September 6!  The three-mile outrageous obstacle race, also known as the largest in the world, promises to push your every limit.  With obstacles such as the barricade breakdown, giant cliffhanger, great warrior wall, plunge, vicious valleys, road rage, warrior peak and warrior roast (where you literally jump over fire)…you’re not even there yet and you already feel exhausted!  The good news is if you survive there is a post-race party that provides juicy turkey legs, endless amounts of beer and live music.
  • Come support a great cause, the annual AIDS Walk Portland September 6!  Not only does the walk hope to spread awareness about AIDS, it also hopes to raise $500,000 to fight the epidemic.  There are several ways you can contribute.  Individuals can receive generous prizes by earning points for each dollar they raise, the number of posts put on Facebook, referring friends to sign up and sending emails through the website encouraging friends to donate, register or join a team.  So grab your friends and family members and walk your way to a better and brighter future for those in need.
  • Grape stomping competitions, barrel rolling races, watermelon eating contests and helicopter rides?  An artists market, magician, music, entertainment and wine, beer, and food tastings?  Carlton Crush Harvest Festival, held on September 13, is definitely a family-friendly event worth checking out!  Celebrating agriculture, sustainability and the annual harvest, this has tons of fun to offer and all of it is free!

Be sure to check out www.events12.com for more fun events!  Get your art fix at the Pearl District Art Festival, nerd out at Rose City Comic Con, drink it up at the Hops Festival, color yourself crazy at the 5K Run or Dye race, and much, much more!
