January Events 2015

This month Portland’s event scene provides plenty of reasons to get out of the house and join in on some fun with family and friends! For starters, there is discount museum day and on the first Sunday of January you can attend OMSI for only $2! For dog lovers there’s the Rose City Classic dog show and for chocolate connoisseurs there’s ChocolateFest. January is also packed with music festivals including jazz, folk and string-band. Check out the four more fabulous events below that will motivate you to get moving and make the most of your experience in Portland!

1. The Festival of Curiosities on January 10th -11th promises to be a rare and remarkable experience if you’re interested in exploring odd and outlandish artifacts and treasures! Located at the Crowne Plaza, come sneak a peek at abnormal art shows, eccentric exhibits, perplexing presentations and much more mysterious monstrosities!
2. Portland Comic Con commences at the Oregon Convention Center on January 23rd! Lasting all weekend, this exciting event presents special guests such as cast members from “The Walking Dead”, “Arrow”, “Xmen”, “Teen Wolf”, “Game of Thrones”, “Once Upon A Time”, and many more! Whether you’re a comic book lover or anime enthusiast, you’re sure to have a great time at this gathering! Attendees are encouraged to dress up in costume and receive a free drink too!
3. Mochitsuki is a Japanese New Year cultural and colorful event located at the Smith Memorial Union at Portland State University on January 25th. The family-friendly celebration offers free mocha samples, festive arts and crafts activities for all ages including pounding mocha and learning calligraphy, exciting performances, and much, much more!
4. Worst Day of the Year Run on January 31st has to be one of the best days of the year to participate in the most fun run around! Whether you participate in the 5k or 10k, if you come in a costume you receive a free drink! The contests take place at the finish line where there will be indoor are all ages and include funniest costume, best weather-themed costume, most detailed costume and greatest group costume. If you’re looking to keep the good times rolling after the race, pick up some hot drinks and tasty food at the after-party located indoors near the finish line.
